Children's programs at the library in February

HOMESCHOOL ART

2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 1

A chance for homeschool students to participate in large-group learning activities at the library. Homeschooled students only. No signup required.

 

TUTORING (K-12 and GED students)

5:30-7:00 pm Tuesday, February 6, 13, 20, 27 and Thursday, February 1, 8, 15, 22 A non-profit group, “Restoring the Breach,” offers tutoring for grades K-12 in Math and English/Language Arts and returns on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

 

Make It Take It (ages 5-12)

Friday all day February, 2, 16

On these Fridays, we will have new craft kits available for kids to make and take home with them. Just ask at the Children’s Desk!

 

52 WEEKS OF GIVING (all ages)

4 pm Friday February 2, 9, 16, 23

This program has a different theme each week, but all of the themes are centered on giving back to our community and making a difference in people’s lives. No sign up is required—you can join this program at any time!

 

TODDLER FREE PLAY (ages 1-4)

10:30 am Saturday, February 3

At Toddler Free Play, we open the Children’s Activity Room for you to gather together, enjoy playtime with age-appropriate toys, and socialize with other families. Open to children ages 1-5 with their caregivers.

 

Video Game Day (6-12)

2:00-4:00 pm Saturday, February 3

Come by and play with our collection!

 

Eagle Time (K-12)

3:15-5:15 Monday, February 5, 12, 26 and Wednesday, February 7, 14, 21, 28 GSU students are at the library Mondays & Wednesdays from 3:15-5:15 pm to help students in grades K-12 with homework, and to lead games, activities & crafts.

 

TEEN ADVISORY GROUP (TAG) MEETING (Ages 12-18)

5:30- 7:00 pm Monday, February 5

Teens meet regularly to help advise the library on what materials & programs might be of interest to teens. They also serve as library volunteers & plan & lead programs of their own. Ask Jen Schumann for more details!

 

Teen DIY Drop-In (ages 12-18)

4:30 – 6:30 pm Tuesday, February 6 & 20

Teens can work on self-directed DIY projects, using Makerspace tools, tech, and supplies. Use the DIY.org site for inspiration, or work on your own project while we all hang out and try new things! Always open to new members.

 

TODDLER TIME (ages 1-5)

10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 7, 14, 21, 28 Toddler Time is designed for parents and young children, with a focus on stories, song, and movement. After story time and songs, we normally have an easy craft for the toddlers to work on (with parent help). No sign up is required—you can join this program at any time!

 

Game Night (ages 10-18)

5:30 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 7

Try out some of our new, more complex and interesting board games, as well as fun video games! We’ll have staff on hand to help you understand the rules and get the fun started. No sign up required.

Valentine’s Craft Party (ages 6-11)

5:30 p.m. Thursday, February 8

Join us for some fun Valentine’s Day crafts!

 

LEGO Club (5-12)

2:00 PM Saturday, February 10

Join us for some fun free-building time with our massive LEGO collection. No sign up is required—join anytime!

 

Kids Anime Clubs (ages 6-11)

4:00 pm Saturday, February 10

For kids who are interested in watching and discussing different anime series. We enjoy an activity, snacks and new episodes each week! No sign up required.

 

MAKER’S MONDAY (ages 10-16)

5:30 p.m. Monday, February 12 & 26

This hands-on program has a different theme each session, but always in a STEAM area (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math). No sign up is required.

 

BOOK TO MOVIE CLUB: “Millions” (Ages 8-12)

4:00 pm Tuesday, February 14

Read the selected book, and then join us to watch the movie and discuss both. No sign up required– just check the calendar to see what we’re reading now.

 

ANIME & MANGA CLUB (ages 12 – 18)

5:00 p.m. Wednesday February 14 & 28

For teens-young adults who are interested in watching and discussing different anime series. We enjoy an activity, snacks and new episodes each week! No sign up required.

 

Kids Afterschool Club (5-10)

4:30 PM Thursday, February 15

A fun chance to hang out with our staff and some Teen Advisory Group members, as they lead cool afterschool games, crafts & activities!

 

COMIC CON (all ages)

12 – 4 pm Saturday February 17

Join us for our own Comic Con! We’ll have cool activities, table games, fun learning sessions, and amazing vendors throughout the afternoon. You’ll even have the chance to meet some authors and artists! Everyone is encouraged to come dressed in costume – you might even win the costume contest!

YOUTH BINGO (6-14)

6:00 p.m. Thursday, February 22

 

What Color Are You Feeling? (Parents and Kids ages 6-11)

3 pm Saturday February 24

Faculty & students from Georgia Southern’s College of Nursing will be in to talk with children and parents about identifying and managing their emotions. There will be fun, hands-on learning activities, great parent resources and free books!

 

READING TO ROVER (all ages)

5:00 P.M. Monday, February 26

New and improving readers can choose any library book at their reading level, and read it aloud to one of the friendly pups from the Statesboro Therapy Dog group. No sign up required

 

Kids Craft Night (6-11)

5:30 PM Tuesday, February 27

This is a chance for elementary school students to spend a little extra time being creative! We’ll have all the craft supplies on hand, and kids can make anything they can think of. No sign up is required.
