Children's programs at the library in January

ALL PROGRAMS TAKE PLACE AT THE Statesboro Bulloch County Public Library, 124 S. Main St.

 

TEEN DIY CLUB (12-18)

4:30 – 6:30 pm Tuesday, January 2 & 16

Teens work on self-directed DIY projects, from crafts to science to engineering to agriculture! We use the DIY.org site for inspiration, and teens earn badges as they level up in different skill areas! Always open to new members.

 

GAME NIGHT (Ages 10 & up)

5:30-7:00 pm Wednesday, January 3

Try out some of our new and interesting board games, or have fun on the Xbox 360. We’ll have staff on hand to help get the fun started. No sign up needed.

 

HOMESCHOOL ART

2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 4

A chance for homeschool students to participate in large-group learning activities at the library. Homeschooled students only. No signup required.

 

52 WEEKS OF GIVING (all ages)

4 pm Friday January 5, 12, 19, 26

This program has a different theme each week, but all of the themes are centered on giving back to our community and making a difference in people’s lives. No sign up is required—you can join this program at any time!

 

TODDLER FREE PLAY (ages 1-4)

10:30 am Saturday, January 6

A drop-in group. Free play with age appropriate toys and a chance to meet new friends.

 

TEEN ADVISORY GROUP (TAG) MEETING (Ages 12-18)

5:30- 7:00 pm Monday, January 8

Teens meet regularly to help advise the library on what materials & programs might be of interest to teens. They also serve as library volunteers & plan & lead programs of their own. Ask Jen Schumann for more details!

 

BOOK TO MOVIE CLUB: “Hidden Figures” (Ages 8-12)

4:00 pm Tuesday, January 9

Read the selected book, and then join us to watch the movie and discuss both. No sign up required– just check the calendar to see what we’re reading now.

 

TODDLER TIME (ages 1-5)

10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 17, 24, 31 Toddler Time is designed for parents and young children, with a focus on stories, song, and movement. After story time and songs, we normally have an easy craft for the toddlers to work on (with parent help). No sign up is required—you can join this program at any time!

 

ANIME & MANGA CLUB (ages 12 – 18)

5:00 p.m. Wednesday January 10 & 24

For teens-young adults who are interested in watching and discussing different anime series. We enjoy an activity, snacks and new episodes each week! No sign up required.

 

HOMESCHOOL STEM

2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 11

A chance for homeschool students to participate in large-group learning activities at the library. Homeschooled students only. No signup required.

 

Mobile Photography (10-16)

5:30 PM Thursday, January 11

Editing basics for beginners.  Learn how to make the most out of your phone’s camera.  (Download the free app “Adobe Lightroom” before class.)

 

LEGO Club (5-12)

2:00 PM Saturday, January 13

Join us for some fun free-building time with our massive LEGO collection. No sign up is required—join anytime!

 

TUTORING (K-12 and GED students)

5:30-7:00 pm Tuesday, January 16, 23, 30 and Thursday, January 18, 25 A non-profit group, “Restoring the Breach,” offers tutoring for grades K-12 in Math and English/Language Arts and returns on Tuesday and Thursday evenings after a break for the holidays.

 

Eagle Time (K-12)

3:15-5:15 Monday, January 22, 29 and Wednesday, January 17, 24, 31 GSU students are at the library Mondays & Wednesdays from 3:15-5:15 pm to help students in grades K-12 with homework, and to lead games, activities & crafts. The program breaks for the holiday and will return in mid-January.

 

Kids Afterschool Club (5-10)

4:30 PM Thursday, January 18

A fun chance to hang out with our staff and some Teen Advisory Group members, as they lead cool afterschool games, crafts & activities!

 

Georgia Southern University Animal Day (all ages)

2 PM Saturday, January 20

Join us for Animal Day, where we’ll have animal crafts and activities, coloring sheets and a free animal book for every child! We’ll even have special animal visitors from Georgia Southern University’s Center for Wildlife Education.

 

READING TO ROVER (all ages)

5:00 P.M. Monday, January 22

New and improving readers can choose any library book at their reading level, and read it aloud to one of the friendly pups from the Statesboro Therapy Dog group. No sign up required

 

MAKER’S MONDAY (ages 10-16)

5:30 p.m. Monday, January 22

This hands-on program has a different theme each session, but always in a STEAM area (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math). No sign up is required.

 

Kids Craft Night (6-11)

5:30 PM Tuesday, January 23

This is a chance for elementary school students to spend a little extra time being creative! We’ll have all the craft supplies on hand, and kids can make anything they can think of. No sign up is required.

 

HOMESCHOOL SCHOOL CHOICE WEEK

2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 25

A chance for homeschool students to participate in large-group learning activities at the library. Homeschooled students only. No signup required.

 

Painters Party (10-16)

6:00 pm Thursday, January 25

Canvas painting led by an instructor.  Come create a fun Geometric Masterpiece!
