Children's programs at the library in December

Make an Ornament (ages 5-12)
All Day, Friday December 1, 8, 15, 22
Stop by on any Friday before Christmas to make a special ornament! We’ll have a different holiday ornament planned for each day!

52 WEEKS OF GIVING (all ages)
4 pm Friday December 1, 8, 15, 22
This program has a different theme each week, but all of the themes are centered on giving back to our community and making a difference in people’s lives. No sign up is required—you can join this program at any time!

Polar Express (ages 5-12)
2 PM Saturday, December 2
Come watch the movie in your PJ’s if you like!  We’ll have cookies, hot cocoa, & crafts! Registration opens November 15th; space is limited.
Location:  Community Room

Eagle Time (K-12)
3:15-5:15 Monday, December 4 and Wednesday, December 6 
Join GSU students for after-school activities and homework help!

TEEN ADVISORY GROUP (TAG) MEETING (Ages 12-18)
5:30 PM Monday, December 4
Teens meet regularly to help advise the library on what materials & programs might be of interest to teens. They also serve as library volunteers & plan & lead programs of their own. Ask Jen Schumann for more details!

TEEN DIY CLUB (12-18)
4:30 – 6:30 pm Tuesday, December 5 & 19
Stop by the Teen Activity Room anytime during this event to find cool DIY projects you can work on, from crafts to science to engineering to agriculture! We’ll be using the DIY.org site for inspiration, and teens can even earn badges as they level up in different skill areas!

TUTORING (K-12 and GED students)
5:30-7:00 pm Tuesday, December 5, 12 and Thursday, December 7, 14
Free tutoring and homework help for students of all ages by the non-profit group, Restoring the Breach.

TODDLER TIME (ages 2-5)
10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 6, 13
Toddler Time is designed for parents and young children, with a focus on stories, song, and movement. After story time and songs, we normally have an easy craft for the toddlers to work on (with parent help). No sign up is required—you can join this program at any time!

GAME NIGHT (Ages 10 & up)
5:30-7:00 pm Wednesday, December 6 and Thursday, December 21
Try out some of our new and interesting board games, or have fun on the Xbox 360. We’ll have staff on hand to help get the fun started. No sign up needed.

HOMESCHOOL ART
2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 7
A chance for homeschool students to participate in large-group learning activities at the library. Homeschooled students only. No signup required.

Family Memory Ornament (all ages - children must be accompanied by an adult)
6 PM Thursday, December 7
Come make a Family Memory Ornament with us! Bring a small photograph to put inside the ornament. Sign-up required. Limited to 25. 

Christmas Sing-a-Long (all ages)
2 PM Saturday, December 9
Join us for lovely holiday piano music and some sing-a-long carols with refreshments from the Friends of the Library.

MAKER’S MONDAY: Santa’s Workshop (ages 10-16)
5:30 p.m. Monday, December 11
This hands-on program has a different theme each session, but always in a STEAM area (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math). No sign up is required.

BOOK TO MOVIE CLUB: “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” (Ages 8-12)
4:30 pm Tuesday, December 12
Read the selected book, and then join us to watch the movie and discuss both. No sign up required– just check the calendar to see what we’re reading now.

ANIME & MANGA CLUB (ages 12 – 18)
5:00 p.m. Wednesday December 13
For teens-young adults who are interested in watching and discussing different anime series. We enjoy an activity, snacks and new episodes each week! No sign up required.

Homeschool Entrepreneur Fair
2:00-4:00 pm Thursday, December 14

Teen Bead Night (ages 12-18)
5:30 pm Thursday, December 14
Bead craft. Teens only!

Breakfast with Santa (ages 2-10)
10 AM Saturday, December 16
Come enjoy breakfast with the big man in the red suit! We’ll have stories, crafts, songs, and photos with Santa. Registration opens December 1st; space limited.
 
READING TO ROVER (all ages)
5:00 P.M. Monday, December 18
New and improving readers can choose any library book at their reading level, and read it aloud to one of the friendly pups from the Statesboro Therapy Dog group. No sign up required

Teen Hangout (ages 12-18)
5:30 PM Monday, December 18
A general “hangout” night with music games and snacks. Teens only!
 
TODDLER FREE PLAY (ages 1-4)
10:30 am Thursday, December 20
A drop-in group. Free play with age appropriate toys and a chance to meet new friends.

Homeschool Cookie Swap!
2:00 PM Thursday, December 21
A chance for homeschool students to participate in large-group activities at the library. Homeschooled students only; no signup required.
