Are you wondering what your plans are going to be for Valentine’s Day? Many of the local bakeries have made the plans for you and are prepared to help make the holiday magical. Even for those of us spending the big day with our cats, these eateries give you the ability to treat yourself and loved ones.
NOTE: Do not treat your cat to a cupcake.
Simply Sweet Cakery on Brannen Street is definitely prepared with 20 flavors of cupcakes to choose from, heart shaped cake pops, chocolate covered strawberries, and macaroons. These are only available for Feb. 13–14 in store and by preorder to the store by Feb. 7.
Among the cupcake flavors offered is the classic red velvet with a cream cheese icing called Southern Bell. The cake and icing combination fit perfectly together without leaving a too-sweet or overly cream cheese aftertaste. Another favorite for the holiday, strawberry, is in every aspect of the Pink Lady cupcake. It features a strawberry cake, strawberry icing, and strawberry jam-like filling. The jam turned what would have been an ordinary cupcake into a classy, delicious goody.
If you’re looking for a more one-on-one feel to your order, Katie Nesmith, owner of Katie’s Cakes, works out of her home but has the ability of a full-service bakery. She takes orders throughout the year but as with any baker, Valentine’s Day is when sweets are most desirable. Her desserts have turned me into a believer of cake pops, a usually too sweet and chewy treat.  Katie managed to make the confection craveable. She can be reached at (912) 541-4581 or at KatiesCakesGA@aol.com
For a combo deal, CAKE and The Flowergirl are teaming up to offer flowers and several treat options, for preorder. In addition, on the 13th and 14th, The Flowergirl will offer some of CAKE’s desserts in her shop on South Main Street while CAKE will be selling single roses in their location on East Main.
Whichever choice you make, you can’t go wrong with any of these options. Each bakery embodies the idea of love in the form of cake, cookies and confectionery delights.
