Fightin' Irishman has championship makings

October 28, 2014

Conor McGregor is absolutely the real deal. The Irishman is only just coming into his prime at only 26 years old,  but with a record of 16-2, “Notorious” will no doubt be a champion soon enough. This is a guy whose fights you never want to miss; in his words, “Not only do I win the fight, I call the round.” He did just so with his last match, predicting a first-round knockout which came to fruition on fight day.
This guy devastates his opponents inside the cage and seems unstoppable right now. He’s unlike any other fighter in that he doesn't want to sit around and wait for a championship bout. He wants to fight as much as possible, with no fear or second thoughts about his match-ups. He fought recently in back-to-back pay per views at UFC 178 and 179. Once the UFC 180 card began to fall apart with Cain Velasquez, Diego Sanchez and Joe Lauzon forced to pull out with injuries during training, McGregor took to Twitter to say, “UFC 178 - The McGregor Show, UFC 179 - The McGregor Show, UFC 180 - Say the word and it’s done @danawhite @lorenzofertita.” This guy is serious about staying busy. He was willing to go in a month’s notice with Diego Sanchez — which, I might add, would be an amazing fight to see and could be a main event itself.
The UFC is figuring out McGregor’s next opponent and seem to be eyeing January for his match, but something tells me we’ll see him again before that. I personally can’t wait to see him in the cage again. I think they should just go ahead and give him the title shot, which he will inevitably get anyway. He doesn’t plan on stopping with that belt, either. He has said on multiple occasions that once he takes the belt from Jose Aldo at Featherweight, he plans to move up in weight and take the Lightweight belt from Anthony Pettis. Will this guy end up holding two belts at once? I definitely believe he has the talent, drive and motivation to do so.
