LeighAnn Williams is a full-time instructor in the Department of Writing and Linguistics at Georgia Southern University who gives her all to every single student she teaches.
“I attended Georgia Southern University. My parents met at GSU and have been married for almost 50 years,” she said.
Williams says her fondest memories from GSU were with her roommate, with whom she is still in touch today.
Williams said that she has always wanted to teach; more specifically, she has always wanted to teach English at the collegiate level.
“I remember telling my college advisor that I wanted to teach college English; he told me not to do anything less. He said, ‘Don’t settle for teaching younger students. Focus on your goals.’ And I did,” she said.
Williams says that after leaving GSU and getting the chance to come back, she is more passionate than ever about teaching.
“I left my teaching position at GSU [after teaching here for several years] because my husband took a job in another location. I’ve been back at GSU for three years, and I appreciate it more now than I did then. I love working with students,” Williams said. “I love helping people and always tell students, ‘You may not love writing when you leave my class, but you’ll be more confident in your writing skills.’ ”
GSU is a major part of her history, so there are many places on campus that Williams loves.
“My favorite place on campus isn’t really one place. I love that my parents met and fell in love here, so it’s special to me that GSU is part of my history,” she said. “My oldest daughter attended the preschool on campus and had a wonderful experience there, so I have a great deal of respect for the instructors and students who work there. I also love taking my kids to the Raptor Center. GSU is home to me; I can’t imagine teaching anywhere else!”
