Lauren West is a rising sophomore at Georgia Southern University who is described by her peers as determined and hardworking.
West is a pre-nursing major who is originally from Miami, Fla., but moved to Statesboro from Marietta, Ga. She chose to attend GSU for a number of reasons.
“I wanted to go to a school close to home but not too close,” she said. “I wanted to go to a medium-size school, as well as a school with a beautiful campus.”
During her short time at GSU, West has wasted no time getting involved and finding out what the university has to offer.
“I am a member of Phi Sigma Pi honors fraternity. I am vice president of Circle K International, and I was strongly involved in the Residence Hall Association and Hall Council of Eagle Village,” she said. “This upcoming fall, I will be a community leader.”
West also says she has learned a few things during her freshmen year.
“So far, I have learned to be accountable for myself. Being that this is my first time being on my own, there are many things I may want to do, but I have to make sure I put my school work first,” she said.
For the upcoming freshman class that soon will be at GSU, West has some advice.
“Take your freshman year seriously. Enjoy it to the fullest, but don't forget what you're here for. Get involved, and watch out for that freshman 15.”
