GSU Theatre & Performance set to open season

The Georgia Southern Theatre & Performance Program presents The House of Yes, written by Wendy MacLeod and directed by Professor Katie Rasor. Since its San Fransico’s Magic Theatre premiere in 1990, MacLeod’s darkly comic presentation of the Kennedy-obsessed Pascals has made audiences laugh and shudder at the twisted mixture of incest, mental illness, alcoholism, and murder.

When Marty returns home for Thanksgiving during a hurricane, the storm is the least of the family's problems. He surprises everyone by bringing an unexpected guest, Lesly--a heretofore unknown fiancé--much to the displeasure of his possessive twin sister, Jackie O, his protective mother Mrs. Pascal, and younger brother Anthony.

MacLeod expertly portrays family dysfunction wrapped in an expensive bow. She describes the play as being about a family who has cut themselves off from the rest of the world, and are living by the rules they've invented. "...A fascinating blend of frivolous family politics and menacing political allegory.... It is wickedly funny, disturbing and vividly written…MacLeod writes funny, frightening dialogue, and she touches the nerve of our cozy, vicarious involvement with acts of public violence" says the San Francisco Chronicle.

The House of Yes opens Wednesday, Feb. 21, and runs through Wednesday, Feb. 28. All shows begin at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee performance on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 2:00 p.m. There will be no show on Monday, Feb. 26.

The House of Yes features mature themes and language.
