Whether it’s over a charcoal or a gas flame food tends to have a great taste just from grilling outside. (No grill? Use a frying pan for this recipe.) Making certain recipes over and over helps remember how to make it quickly so you’re not standing in the kitchen while everyone else is doing something fun. Getting others involved helps it get done easily. But if you’re very distractible, you might want to cook alone to stay focused.
Shopping List(Based on Walmart prices. Serves 4.)
• 2+ lbs boneless Pork Chops: $4.58 per lb
• Honey Barbeque Sauce: $1.82 (Pick your favorite flavor/brand)
• 1 box Rice Mix: $1.00
• 1 bag Frozen Sweet Peas: $0.98
Total: $12.96
Prepare to prepareSet the grill aflame to prepare for cooking. After decently hot, place raw meat on the grate over medium heat. Brush on some barbeque sauce on the top with a brush or spoon. Cook for 7-8 minutes. Close lid and vamoose.
Side dish network Select your sides. Today it’s a rice mix (easy) and asparagus (stupid-easy). According to the rice mix directions, in a sauce pan add rice and 2 Tablespoons of butter over medium heat. (This is to brown some of the rice—try not to “blacken” it.) Don’t run back outside, stand next to this baby so it doesn’t send out smoke signals. When delicately browned, add the necessary amount of water and seasoning packet, then bring to a boil. After it is bubbling nicely turn to low, cover and simmer for 15 – 20 minutes (or according to package directions.)
Meanwhile back at the grill Head out to the grill to check on “the other white meat.” Flip over and add some barbeque sauce to the cooked side. Lovely, you should’ve been an artist. Cook for another 7-8 minutes (with a combined cook time of 12-15 minutes.)
Do the veggie dance Add some green to your plate with any kind of veggie. Frozen veggies are easy to prepare. Pour a couple cups of frozen peas into a glass bowl, add a couple tablespoons of water and stick in the microwave for
5-6 minutes.
Synchronized completion When your rice is done let stand for 5 minutes so it doesn’t burn a layer of taste buds from your tongue.
The pork chops should be done about the same time, and it is okay to overcook pork. If you are a bearer of a meat thermometer, it should read 155° to 160°F. Or just cut one of the chops down the middle to check for the absence of pink. It’s called white meat because that’s what color it is when done.
Your veggie should be ready now too. Pour off the little bit of water and smother in some butter. Serve your roomies a tasty barbeque meal that takes less than 30 minutes to prepare. You can do it!
