With the opening of spring training approaching, it's time for your chance as a fantasy baseball owner. It’s the oldest form of fantasy sports and arguably one of the most difficult and time-intensive due to the 162-game season of MLB and the inconsistency of players.
There are different ways to play fantasy baseball. One way to play would be in a Head to Head format which makes each individual team play against a different team each week to acquire wins through total points scored for the week. The teams with the most wins at the end of the season would then enter into a playoff similar to the way MLB runs their playoff system. The winner is the team that doesn't lose in the playoffs.
Well how do you get started? You form a league comprised of family, friends and maybe co-workers. You then select a comissioner to run the league and set up your style of play. The best way to run your league is to choose a website to host your league such as CBS Sportsline, ESPN or Fanball. The next step is to then hold a draft to fill your roster. The skills of the team managers come into play in the "preseason" by their knowledge of the talent and ability to forecast the performance of MLB players and prospects for the coming season.
Some leagues allow teams to keep some players from one year to the next, allowing savvy owners to build fantasy dynasties. These leagues are often referred to as Keeper Leagues. Which ever league you decide on have fun with it. Set up a draft party before the season starts to draft your rosters. Most leagues make an evening out of it complete with food and beverages. Then they cap the evening off with a game of Texas Hold Em’. So get ready for baseball and stay connected each week right here in the Connect Statesboro for all your weekly fantasy baseball advice.
