Theatre and Performance putting on 'As You Like It'

February 17, 2010

The Theatre and Performance area of the Communication Arts Department will perform Dan Nigro’s high spirited comedy, The Curate Shakespeare’s As You Like It, starting Feb. 26 at the Center for Art and Theatre.
The play, directed by Professor Lisa Abbott, chronicles the attempt of a second-rate theatre company to perform Shakespeare’s As You Like It. Audiences will watch in gleeful horror as seven scatter-brained actors try to play 33 characters with no set, money or true grasp of their lines.
Improvisation and the utter annihilation of the forth wall will provide a unique and entertaining experience for those that attend. Scholars, as well as those with no prior interest in classic theatre should find themselves enjoying this disastrous or, possibly, victorious performance of Shakespeare’s classic.
The production incorporates designs by Professor Kelly Berry and Brenda Dartt, and will showcase the talent of several new students as well as that of a few old favorites.
The show will run from Feb. 26 through March 6 with no performance on that Monday. Showtimes will be at 7:30 p.m., except on Sunday Feb. 28, which will start at 2 p.m. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for faculty and can be reserved by calling (912) 478-5379.
