Being healthy for less

January 20, 2010

Okay, I admit it. I am not the healthiest person in the world. Actually, I haven’t had a steady workout routine since I was in high school, and that has been since 2004.
I don’t have the body I once had thanks to being involved in multiple sports in high school. I haven’t stepped foot inside of a gym since I took Body Conditioning in college (which I fully recommend for the Spring Semester to prepare for bikini season). My schedule isn’t the best in the world: I leave home early and get home late with little to no real breaks to allow for a trip to the gym.
That’s no excuse, though. When it comes down to it, I’ve been lazy about my health in years past. I probably couldn’t run one lap around the Statesboro Herald building. However, this year I’m going to try.
See, your favorite editor has to fit inside a wedding dress this summer. Tying the knot is quite a big deal, and I decided to start taking better care of myself. Before you get started, I’m not one of those people who lose weight simply because I’m getting married. To be honest, I haven’t noticed any changes in my body until recently.
However, I’ve downloaded the iTunes app for my iPod Touch called iFitness. You choose from 239 workout routines which are separated by body region or the muscle it targets. The workouts are demonstrated in videos and pictures. Don’t stop at that. You can also log your success with a simple and easy-to-use chart.
If you have an exercise that you use but it’s not listed, you can add it to your workout. Create workouts for yourself and upload your own pictures. Use the stopwatch icon to track how long your breaks are between sets. Calculate and track your Body Mass Index as you workout. From weight loss to strength building, there are customized workout routines for those goals.
It’s the perfect solution for people who need a personal trainer but can’t afford one. (Note: The app is $1.99.)
Use the app at home or in the gym. You really don’t have an excuse anymore.

It’s back
